Mentor — Cohort 1 · Founder, Built In Ireland
Kali operates a portfolio of around fifty Irish websites — some big and editorial (localnews.ie, myid.ie), some small and directory-shaped (pubhub.ie, ourhouse.ie, tantra.ie, campers.ie), some still finding their feet (rural.ie, builtinireland.ie). The portfolio is managed as one thing, with a deliberately small shared stack: Python for the pipelines, static HTML for the sites, cPanel for the hosting, Matomo for the analytics.
The reason the portfolio exists is the bet that the Irish web has dozens of useful niche sites that nobody is bothering to build properly. Most of them are one-or-two-person operations on the side of other work. Kali's job is to be that one-or-two-person operation across all of them at once, and to ship enough that the portfolio compounds.
The localnews.ie work for Carlow is genuinely on Kali's list of things he'd like to ship. He'd otherwise pick it up himself over six to eight weeks of nights and weekends. A cohort of eight to ten people, each with a small role and a four-week clock, ships the same thing better and gives ten people a public reference for their trouble. That's a good trade for everyone.
If you take a role in Cohort 1, you're working on something Kali actively wants. The mentor relationship is closer to "operator and contributor" than "teacher and student." That's the framing.
You'd be mentored by Kali for four weeks. Reference paperwork is co-signed by Built In Ireland and Raven Design when you graduate.
